17th April 2010

Hello readers. As you know, today is another Saturday and Swinburne Dance Club has had another dance practice today. However, unlike last week, the venue for this week's practice is at G813, instead of last week's Auditorium.

The videos of the performances will be uploaded on Monday, so please bear with these few picture-less posts, yea?

Today we recapped on what "Spinning" is, and the other types of spins that are present other than the ones we're shown last week. After that, a new thing called "Popping" was introduced to those who have no idea whatsoever what "popping" is.

If you wanna know more about "Popping", you can click here in order to read more about it. =)

And so, after teaching the members what Popping is, the committee previewed the routine that we were about to learn. The members were split into five different groups, with Daniel leading Group 1, Anushka leading Group 2, Jude leading Group 3, Christine Tan leading Group 4 and Zhe Yii leading Group 5.

After about 2 hours of practicing, the members were asked to perform for the other members to watch. The videos, like I have mentioned earlier, will be uploaded next Monday, so please be patient, yea? =)

Swinburne Dance Club Installation Night 2010

Hello people. Time for an update~ =)

On Friday, 16th April 2010, there was an Installation Party for Swinburne Dance Club. It was held in the Auditorium of Swinburne Block G and it was only open to all members of the club.

After eating the food provided, the party started with Haryati, the Empress of Swinburne Dance Club, speaking about her experience as a dancer in SDC. After that, she invited Chloe Tsai, the president for the year 2009 on stage to talk about her own experience as a leader of a club. After that, Haryati gave away certificates to all of the committees of the club.

Next, Haryati invited the current president of Swinburne Dance Club, Evan Poh, to share with the crowd what his expectations for the club to be. Following his speech was the giving out of certificates to the new committee of Swinburne Dance Club, year 2010.

When the ceremony was over, Haryati asked the members, "So now you know these people, do you want to see how good they are?"

The crowd cheered in excitement as the dancers got ready to perform. (I apologize again for the absence of videos/pictures because they have to be processed a bit first before they can be posted here. But don't worry, when they're up in Facebook or Youtube, you'll be the first to know, alright? =D)

When the performance was over, Yih Han played music for the members of SDC to dance along to. After all, it is a Dance Club, right? So everyone had to dance. =)

The party started at around 8pm and ended 2 hours later. When the people have left, they left with smiles and satisfaction on their faces. The Installation Party is a very successful one for Swinburne Dance Club. Way to go, SDC! =)

10th April 2010

Hello readers. Today is a Saturday, which means there was a Dance Club practice today. The venue for 10th April 2010 was in the Auditorium, and we were joined by lots of new members! I apologize beforehand for the lack of pictures because of some technical difficulties, but look out for pictures in an update soon, okay?

Basically what we did today was just teaching the new members the basics of dancing.

We started today's meeting by offering the members some food and drinks for them to relax before we played "Charade" with them.

After the game, the seniors showed the members some of the things that will be taught in Swinburne Dance Club as they go along, and it was first led by Keong's Popping, followed by Ernest's style of Popping. Jude was next to show us what breakdance was, and Daniel joined in to further open our eyes about what breakdance really is.

Ife & Ernest then closed the show with their Nigerian style of Hip-Hop, which was well-received by the members as cheers and laughter could be heard all around the Auditorium.

After that, the seniors performed a short routine for the new members. That would be what they would be learning today. The new members were then asked to stand next to each other to form lines in order to get down to business.

The new members were exposed to what "Spinning" and "Hop & Step" were. All of them are really fast-learners! =)

After teaching them what "Spinning" and "Hop & Step" were, Ife coached them step-by-step how the routine should go. But unfortunately, due to time constraints, instead of the full 32-beat routine, we could only manage to teach up to 16-beats.

We would be continuing our final 16-beats next week, and hopefully we'll see the videos & pictures by then. =)

Cheers~
